Professional Development
MESA offers several professional development opportunities for Advisors throughout the year:
- MASME (MESA Academy for Science and Mathematics Educators): MASME is a summertime conference that allows MESA teachers to learn creative hands-on activities in math and science. Furthermore, it gives teachers techniques for establishing a college-going culture within the MESA class or club. MASME 2010, which will be held in July or August of 2010, will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of MESA. More details will be announced as they become available.
- Monthly Advisor's Meetings: These meetings provide a time for advisors to plan and collaborate with one another and prepare for upcoming MESA events. Some meetings are held in person, and others are held online.
- Local Advisor's Trainings: These trainings introduce MESA projects and reinforce the MESA curriculum. They also cover such topics as recruiting, academic advising, college planning, and parent involvement. Training is also available in an online course format through the Fresno State MESA Online Academy.
Please refer to the calendar for the dates of each training opportunity.
In addition to these opportunities, curricula are available for many of the MESA Day projects. MESA Advisors are encouraged to integrate these curricula-which conform to California Math and Science Standards-into MESA classes and meetings. Contact our office for more information.
We always love getting input from our advisors. Please let us know how MESA lessons have been presented, what has worked, what needs improvement, and so on.
