Students

Are you new to MESA? MESA is a program that teaches students like you about math, science, and engineering through hands-on projects, competitions, and field trips. It can also help you plan for college and make sure you take the necessary classes and tests to get there.

Last year, MESA students worked with their classmates to build mousetrap cars and gliders, create websites, give speeches, and much more. They also got to travel to places like USC to take part in a robotics competition, to Catalina Island to study the ecosystem, and to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to check out the engineering program there.  A few of our MESA students even got to go to Denver, Colorado for the National Trebuchet Competition!

If you're returning to MESA, we know you're familiar with a lot of the MESA projects. In addition to some of your favorite activities from last year, we also have a few new things planned this year:

  • There are some new MESA Day competitions to try out, including a middle school glider project, new model science competitions, a prosthetic arm project for 11th and 12th graders, and a new national competition- the Windmill Energy Challenge. Check out the MESA Day rules page for all the changes.
  • Regional MESA Day is at UC Santa Cruz this year, so we're looking forward to checking out the campus while winning a few medals!
  • We'll offer more opportunities access MESA online, mainly through the Fresno State MESA Online Academy. If you're not able to attend regular MESA meetings- or if you're just looking for additional help with a MESA Day project- the Online Academy is for you!

We'll also continue to help you explore different colleges and majors, as well as careers in math, engineering, and science. Check out the links to the left for more information on MESA, college, and more!
